What’s inside a Shopaholic’s bag 👜

I love buying handbags 💞! I mean come on now ❣ They are one of the most important things in a girls wardrobe and on her body. They are arm candy🍬 ( they definitely hang around longer than a 🏃🏾guy). Me and most girls I know, stash  everything but our car inside them😳  (except the ones that carry about the itty bitty bags 👛, more power to you ladies!).

So it’s only natural that me being a curious kitty😸always wanted to take a peek inside someone else’s handbag and see what goodies she was toting about. That being said I realized that it had been quiet a while🗓since I had actually looked inside🔍 my own bag . Which frankly was starting to feel like I was carting around🏋🏻 a ton of bricks lately. So here comes the big reveal ladies 🙀

Bag – Marc Jacobs, Too hot to handle hobo in praline . I love Marc Jacobs bags, the leather is buttery soft and the bags have an effortless slouch to them. This one can be carried two ways , over the shoulder and cross body for hands free bargain hunting 😘. ( Macy’s)

Sunglasses-Coach, I had been dying to try (I’m a drama queen 👑 I know ☺️) aviators for the longest time. However every 🕶 pair I tried on made me look like a member of the mafia 🔫 or an extra terrestrial under disguise 👽. So you can imagine my delight 🎉when I finally came upon these. (Sun glasses hut).

Wallet-Again Coach💞 I was in love with this color but the idea of carrying an orange🍊 bag seemed a bit too much. So I opted to go with this wallet. 100% leather with two zippers compartments and a smaller zippered pocket on the inside for keys and change. The carrying strap means you can use it as a wristlet as well.(Coach)

Cosmetic caseEtsy. After throwing out dozens of cases, either because they fell apart or got stains or they weren’t the right size. I finally found this one at etsy. It’s 😍 perfect especially like me if you carry a lot of stuff. It’s generously sized, the print is gorgeous, the leather details add the perfect finish in touch and it’s held up beautifully to months of use (read 🛠abuse).

Here’s what’s inside:

Shopaholic goes organic 🍃

Being an all natural girl, I’ve never really been into makeup too much. Don’t get me wrong I adore Sephora as much as the next gal. But while most of them flock to the makeup aisles I hover over the skincare section. Testing out moisturizers, serums, face oils, lotions, eye creams you name it i have it, have tried , it or I want it.

Over the years however due to hormonal changes my skin has become somewhat sensitive and less tolerant to the typical chemicaly laden, cleverly disguised products. A recent bout of breakouts and excessive dryness led me to actively be on the lookout for more natural alternatives.

As it turned out natural, organic skincare was a dime a dozen. From drugstores to high end boutiques, everywhere I turned organic and all natural products were on display , ready and willing to prove their dedication to Mother Earth . 🌍

Well this was a piece of cake I thought as I skipped home clutching my bulging bags, heck I feel closer to nature already.🍃Look out Pocahontas !

However I did a double take 👀 as I unboxed the first item from my haul and went over the ingredients list. The 💯% Shea butter lip balm contained only 5% Shea butter 😱! The rest of the 95% was a jumble of tiny, 🔎unpronounceable print out of which petrolatum and 8% almond oil was all I could make out.

The rest as they say is a very expensive history 💸💸. Every single product from the face wash to the moisturizers from a wide array of brand names swearing up and down about being organic 🌚. were anything but ❌.

So what’s with all the labeling you ask❓Here’s what’s happening. There are no FDA standards or regulations in place when it comes to labeling cosmetic products as organic. Basically it means that even if one of the gazillion ingredients is organically sourced the entire concoction can be labeled as an organic product. 🚫

So what’s a gal to do⁉️ You need to play detective that’s what🔍. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by the word “organic”. Look for products with the USDA organic seal if possible, this will ensure the product contains only organically sourced ingredients.

Check the ingredients list, an organic product should contain between 70- 95% of organically sourced items excluding water and salt. Basically the fewer ingredients a product has the better it is for you.

Now here’s the bad news ; Your chances of finding all natural , certified 💯% organic , cruelty free products in your nearest beauty store are about the same as finding a single, handsome, charming hunk of a guy👤 ready to commit at the word go, when you turn the corner . Basically zero to very slim 😪.

But not to worry ,yours truly has done the work and weeded out the crazies for you. Below are the products i have tried, tested and vouch for as being all natural and effective in what they claim to do.

In no particular order:

Moogoo Anti Aging Face cream with SPF15– with milk protein, olive & raspberry seed oil and zinc oxide for sun protection. This is one of the best moisturizers i have tried hands down. Its non greasy, super moisturizing and wont break you out. Plus its all natural ingredients (i can pronounce and recognize all of them). You can get yours at moogoousa.com priced at $34.90.

anti-ageingspf15facecream75g_cartonandproduct-web
Moogoo Udder Cream and Full Cream– I use them after a shower as an all over body moisturizer, they are super creamy and smell yummy. Personally i prefer the udder cream i feel it has a thicker texture, the full cream i feel is a bit lighter for me probably better in the summer. Available in 100 grams- $11.90 or 270 grams $18.50 at moogoousa.com

Moogoo serums-These have been a lifesaver for me. The super c vitamin serum, the 3 vitamic eye serum and the tamanu oil . I use them all over my face, they absorb instantly , no oily residue , no break outs, just healthy moisturized skin. They have a serum tester pack if you want to sample all of them first. priced at $69 for four full size bottles.Contains the evening primrose oil serum as well. (Haven’t gotten around to trying that but i’m sure ill love it !)

Its a dry oil so once you apply it will absorb into your skin no greasy residue. Has a funky smell but it dissipates within a few seconds. priced at $15.76. (Amazon keeps changing the price but this was the price as of 01/26/2016).

Dustygirls earth cream– i love love love 💞this cream, its a tinted moisturizer avaiable at dustygirls.com.au a sister site of moogoo. Shopaholic and the last 5 pounds! 🏋🏻

I have been fighting the battle of the bulge for as long as I can remember. I was a carefree chubby toddler, an oblivious, rotund preteen and by the time I had gotten my bearings I was officially deemed fat.

Some people are blessed with the skinny gene. I unfortunately am not one of them . My gene pool handed me down among other things I resent, a pear shape 🍐 which resulted in the lower gargantuan half of my body to forever be in an awkward contrast with my petite upper half. Plus a metabolism that would finish in last place even in a snail race🐌.😒

As a result of this, I have been engaged in a lifelong battle with those pesky pounds which I have beaten down to a handful of five. This was several lifetimes ago, 😖 and yet “The loose five pounds”resolution somehow makes it to the top of my list at the start of every new year 😠.

Several failed attempts that ranged from: Dieting which transformed me into a ravenous , wild eyed beast intent on giving the third degree to anyone who dared to eat in my presence.👿

To yoga, where after several maddening  chants of “find your inner peace”the only thing I ended up finding was my inner aggression.😡

And lastly to strength training 💪🏼🏋🏻which resulted in me resembling a five foot michelin man with caramel highlights.

Frustrated and defeated , I finally resigned to the fact that there was nothing I could do to part company with the fat cells seemingly super glued to my lower half.😪

The only other options available to me were a)surgery which I couldn’t afford 💸, or b) praying for a miracle 🙏🏼 which according to Cindrella’s fairy god mother “take a little time✨”.

Leaving me with no choice but to indeed wait it out. All alone, depressed, hungry… Which reminds me it’s almost dinner time  Nutella sandwich anybody? 😋

I confess I am a shopaholic

As a teenager I was never really interested in shopping. I remember accompanying my mother on her many shopping excursions, book in hand, engrossed in my reading while she dragged me from shop to shop. Going over the floor to ceiling bulging shelves with a practiced eye, selecting , rejecting fabric, haggling over prices while constantly admonishing me to keep an eye on her countless carrier bags.

It wasn’t after I had been on my own for a while that I felt the dormant shopping genes within me rise to the surface with a vengeance. I began to enjoy what I once considered to be an arduous chore .

Going into shops , sifting through piles, all the while keeping an eye out for bargains. Coupons being the holy grail of the entire experience. The surmounting anticipation of watching the $$$ amount go lower and lower as the scanner ran over the coveted bar code , and the resulting feeling of triumphant as I calculated my savings 🤑

Shopping became an addiction, a kind of therapy. The feeling of accomplishment at scoring a great deal. Especially if it’s an item you have been hankering after for ages is immeasurable. Though I do wish the stores wouldn’t hand me my precious merchandise in bags with the word sale slapped on 😡 . ( I actually keep all my nice carrier bags to tote around stuff in later 😇).

The aftermath of a shopping expedition is just as exciting. The little fireworks that go off everytime you unpack and inspect your haul at home, it’s like a mini Fourth of July show in your own bedroom ✨💫☄

Bored with your workout routine? Shopping is the new crossfit! 💪🏼What could burn more calories than lugging around heavyweight shopping bags for miles at a stretch? I hail it as the best no sweat, workout ever for women, with immediate gratification and rewards. No 30 day waiting period here.

Shopping is an anti depresant. No matter how down in the dumps or tired you are , there is no faster way to induce a surge of adrenaline than a “sale” sign . Want to get over a breakup? go shopping, its the mother of all cures and no nasty hangovers the next day. I’ll toast to that .

Had a bad day at work/school? Nothing cheers you up faster than closing your fingers around the handles of a brand new, uncreased carrier bag.

Lastly its a great bonding experience, with your gal pals that is 👩‍❤️‍👩. Nothing beats a day of bargain hunting with your girlfriends with a round of lattes and red velvet cupcakes to end it all on a sweet note . ☕️🍰

Which reminds me there are still a few last minute sales still around that I might have missed …lattes anyone? 😉

Shopaholic tells a lie 😳

We live in an ageist society . It’s been said before and I am saying it again. Maybe forever 21 came up with their slogan on a whim but today it’s the widespread norm.
There was a time when the formula youth = success was limited to the Fashion and entertainment industry. The ordinary, everyday people took aging as a natural phenomenon and went about their daily lives and jobs unaffected.
Neither was older than 20 something need not apply was a box that needed to be ticked on a job application .
However in the recent years this obsession with youth has trickled down and become mainstream in our society and culture. Every where you go , you are bombarded with the latest in anti aging innovations , ranging from high tech skin care, makeup, supplements , gadgets , surgical procedures and the last I checked anti aging water and even drinkable collagen !😕
It doesn’t matter where in the world you live or which ethnicity you belong to. Once you cross the 20 something threshold you are guilty of committing a grievous sin.
Owing to circumstances beyond my control it was well into my late twenties that I had the opportunity to start crossing items off my dated and yellowing bucket list.
Little did I know I was ineligible for over half the things on my list since I no longer fit the 15-20 age bracket anymore.
I remember signing up for dancing lessons and considering penciling in the 25-30 age box myself in exasperation.
For me at 16, finishing homework and passing exams was the limit to my ambitious thinking. What I learned that day while attempting to blend in with the other 18 year old somethings , was that life goals today are not only planned out but close to being achieved when you hit the 20 something age mark.
As I stood there , I realized that I had completely missed “The young and The successful” boat ages ago. I remembered the time when our mothers would lie about their ages out of sheer vanity and getting older meant becoming wiser , smarter and more graceful.
As I crossed out the 18-20 age box and handed over the form grudgingly I realized lying about my age was going to be more out of necessity than of vanity.

Memoirs of a Shopaholic – A daughter reminisces 💞

Ever since I was a teenager I was notoriously bad at crossing the street having invisible blinders strapped to either side of my face which enabled me to look straight ahead not on either side and therefore step brazenly albeit dreamily right into incoming traffic read mad, speed happy, crazy, graffitied rickshaws, taxis, buses and motorcyclists who were forced to brake, holler and shake their fists in mid air in order to startle me from my reverie.
Today years later I happened to be walking to the supermarket with my dad and just as we approached the busy street and waited to cross Papa immediately clasped my hand firmly and guided me across the street all the while chatting nonchalantly about this and that and didn’t let go until we were safely on the sidewalk.
The fact that my incredibly busy and seemingly unassuming father took note of and remembered this habit of mine years later made me feel ridiculously happy , incredibly touched and left me a wee bit misty eyed which I attempted to cover under the age old got a speck of dust in my eye alibi.
I as a daughter may or may not remember his quirks and oddities but I hope as a parent I will be as mindful of my kids as my parents are of me 💕💗💖💓❤️.

When Rapunzel went to the hairdresser

image.jpegAlthough I love long hair as much as rapunzel , I have to say when you are an old fossil like me it tends to tack on a few hundred years to your already ancient facade…with that in mind I decided it was time to chop off a hundred yards Based on a friends recommendation on the spur of the moment I called up the salon expecting to be told they had no opening till the next century but was pleasantly surprised that they could accommodate me in the next few hours. A color and cut will only take an hour or so I was informed politely. I looked dubiously at my mane that for the moment was in its customary “i don’t know how the hell to style this Amazonian bush ” bun .
Once I was seated in front of the mirror clutching my valet ticket nervously after being assured by the receptionist they would validate it and save me the 50 or so in parking fees, I found myself attempting to explain the look I was after to the stylist a ethinic guy with a cautious look on his face.
Anything like these I ventured showing him a half a dozen pics of flowing locks being sported by airbrushed to perfection models on my phone.
Aah I understand … Came the customary reply .. I have heard a gazillion times before any hair cutting disaster. With the exception of my one dear stylist who I had to bid adieu back in California I have generally had very rotten luck almost everywhere when it comes to my hair. I cannot recount the no of times I have bounced from Salon to salon to be asked where I got my hair done since it was a total botch up and needed to be redone from the scratch
So how long will it take I asked as he started to free my hair from its messy bun , “about an hour”.. Aiiiyee! This is lot of hair! The stylist exclaimed as the Amazonian bush finally free from its captivity proceeded to drape over the chair. “4 hours!” He said firmly and beckoned over an assistant , apparently the hideously never ending task at hand required reinforcements.
To cut a long story short at the end of 3.5 hours when both my feet and my butt had given up and fallen asleep and the stylist whose name I had finally thought of asking made the dreaded comment…”who cut your hair? It’s done all wrong!” And proceeded to snip away using a pair of viciously sharp scissors and a multi tooth blade with which he sliced and hacked away at my hair with fervor.
When I finally dared to open my eyes the stylist Sergio was done blow drying my hair and was attempting to put in barrel curls apparently under the impression that I was off to a swanky event and needed to be primed to the nines. I didn’t have the heart to tell him after 4 hours that the only date these curls were having after a round of pick and drop from school was with a defrosted chicken and a packet of Shan biryani masala. ☹
So I let him plough on ,” where you from ?” Sergio interrupted my sad contemplation of my impending fate. Apparently he figured after wrestling with several pounds of unruly hair for four hours he had the right to get to know the owner of this mane of torture. “California” I proffered ,
“But You look like a Latina!”  He exclaimed! I assumed he was reffering to the after the hair, color and blow dry me. The me who came into the salon 4 hours earlier could have been mistaken for none other than a worn out, unpaid, unappreciated maid which lets face it is what I am most of the time Either that or he was reeling from a mixture of exhaustion and inhaling the fumes from the hair color.
I took the comment in stride and attempted to stand on my waking from sleep in pins and needles legs . After exclaiming over the finished product and tipping my new bff generously I wobbled over to the reception where I was presented by a whopper of a bill which I paid flinching ever so slightly . To be honest I’m used to being charged outrageously given the amount of hair I present to the hair dresser ….oh well atleast I got free parking I guess this expensive cloud did have a silver lining after all 😇
