✂️ShopaholicBlogs : Hair Stories ✂️

💇🏻‍♀️I have always had long hair for as long as I can remember and as such I have become very protective of my locks 💝.

💇🏻‍♀️From the time when I was a toddler and till my late teens my mom was in charge of my hair’s care and maintenance : from pinning me down with one leg and piling on coconut🥥olive and safflower oils, to tying it in the tightest of braids. Even haircuts consisted of me standing on a pile of old 🗞newspapers and my mom trimming a few centimeters at the bottom with a pair of kitchen scissors ✂️. Salons and hairdressers according to my mom and Nani(her mom) were the wicked conspirators who would chop✂️ off all my hair to sell in the black market and send me home looking like a ganji kabootri (bald pigeon🐦) God only knows where Desi moms and grandma’s come up with such analogies and stories 😓.

💇🏻‍♀️If all that wasn’t extreme enough mom would also carefully wash and condition and detangle my hair announcing beforehand that I was too phoohar (both inept & incapable) that I would never be able to wash the oil out 😓. And also that I would use up all the water in the tank in the process😳.

💇🏻‍♀️Eventually I took over the washing and conditioning part once I turned 13 stressing that I needed privacy despite her protests of (mujh se kya chupa rahi ho maine tumhe 10 saal tak nilhaya hai💧) = I’ve bathed you till you were 10 there is nothing there I haven’t seen already 😳.

💇🏻‍♀️The only time after that I remember my mom washing my hair when I was older was when I was 14.

💇🏻‍♀️Ok so backstory : I was at school and for some reason had my head stuck out our classroom window to look at god knows what down below, when the glass pane from the window one floor above me fell out and smashed on my head 😱. And when I say smashed I mean smashed like into teeny tiny smithereens. So there I was with these hundreds of micro shards of glass in my hair feeling like a character from the Tiny Toons cartoon after they have been hit on the head with an anvil 😳. Anyways this was Karachi in the 90’s so the class teacher simply told me I was perfectly fine, not to make a fuss and since I wasn’t visibly bleeding that I should go home (the last class of the day had ended during this fiasco).

💇🏻‍♀️Once home I told my mom about the incident, where after the initial aye haye (oh no!) tujhe kya zarroorat thee khirki se poora sar bahar niklane ki? Kahin kaanch ne baal tu nahi kaat diye??( what possessed you to stick your whole head out the window? Don’t tell me the glass damaged the hair!!😒

I was then promptly marched over to the bathroom and since I refused to take off my clothes in front of her I had to sit in my uniform in the bathtub 🛁while she meticulously removed every piece of glass from hair and washed it. 💞

💇🏻‍♀️Given my mom’s obsession with long hair. It’s no wonder then that even as an adult I was very attached to my hair and when I finally ventured on my own for a haircut. I was the very epitome of the pain in the ass, badgering, edgy customer who would constantly remind the hair dresser to cut as little as possible of her precious hair and then demand proof that she had not tricked me and hacked off all my hair 🤨 (Mujhe dekhain kitna kaat rahi hain) = show me how much you are cutting off 😜

💇🏻‍♀️I remember the first time I had bangs cut 😳the sight of the hair dresser cleanly slicing off a a foot long, thick lock of hair had me clutching the arms of the salon chair so firmly my knuckles had turned white causing the lady to stop in alarm and checking to see if I was having some of seizure 😖🙃. I remember regretting getting my hair cut the moment I got back home and ordering all sorts of hair vitamins off of amazon and measuring my hair diligently every week.

💇🏻‍♀️Back to the present I have managed to get over my hair related nerves finally 😋 and I actually look forward to getting my hair styled and colored every now and then a little differently each time. Pictures below 😬⬇️💇🏻‍♀️Luckily I have always done my research and I have always found myself in good hands so no major hair disaster stories. Except for the time when I got my hair highlighted in Karachi and I ended up with a giant white blonde streak reminiscent of a Skunk’s tail smack in the center of my head 😱. But a tantrum in the salon and a little toner helped fix that problem so whew😬

💇🏻‍♀️I honesty feel a haircut and color is the easiest and quickest way to freshen up your look and feel good about the way you look. So here is my very current hair cut and yes it looked so good I had to indulge in a little selfie while I was still the car 😜

Tell me your hair stories good or bad I would love to hear them 😘

Shopaholic Reviews : Marinne Puppy🐶 Pigment Corrector Serum

Marinne Puppy is a brand i recently started following on Instagram. They are an all nutrients skincare line that targets sunspots, acne, aging, dullness and dehydration to create a brighter more translucent complexion. Created by skin treatment specialists and head chemist Sandy Tan in Cupertino CA. The company has more than 10 years of clinical research since 2006. All products are created in small batches and are free of parabens, formaldehyde and synthetic colors or fragrances.

I actually ordered the pigment corrector serum from the brand and they were kind enough to send along these generous samples of their different moisturizers which I have been wanting to try I love 💞it when brands send you large enough samples that allow for multiple uses so I can decide if the product suits my skin or not before buying the full size of the product. Those one use sachets brands think they are doing us a favor by including in our purchase? I usually toss in the bin and never buy the full size of that product 😠.

Ok back to the review: the pigment serum has a oily texture so I need only two drops at a time while it hasn’t gotten rid of the four freckles on my face courtesy of the Dubai ☀️it has over all evened out my complexion and it didn’t make me break out (plus plus ) repurchasePossibly.

Onto the samples : I received three of their moisturizer samples.

The white luminescence is meant to be used in conjunction with the pigment corrector serum it is a very concentrated cream so I only use a dab for my face and neck, the cream itself is very moisturizing, in terms of reducing pigmentation I haven’t used it long enough to comment on that aspect but I’m most certainly purchasing the full size.

The ultra moisture cream is a very light, non greasy cream perfect for combination skin types and also as a light moisturizer for summers.

The Ferulic moisturizer is an anti aging night cream which is also concentrated so I just used a dab before bedtime, again very moisturizing, no breakouts, repurchaseYes I have been looking for an anti-aging moisturizer for night time 🌙use so this will be perfect

How many of you have tried this brand

Shopaholic✨Reviews : Erzulie Cosmetics 🍃

Hola companeros blogueros❣️➡️Hello fellow bloggers 😘

Lol😀 Incase you were wondering what’s going onI’ve recently started learning Spanish so I’m trying to practice it every chance I get 😇. Anyways back to today’s blog post Today I’ll be reviewing another Etsy brand : Erzuliecosmetics🍃

So let’s start by talking a little about the brand first. Erzulie products are all handmade in small batches, are cruelty free🐰 and vegan and are non comedogenic. The brand includes skincare as well as mineral makeup made from all natural, organic ingredients. They are however not USDA certified. The products very reasonably priced and shipping was timely. You can purchase them from their Etsy store Or from their website Erzulie.

Ok let’s move on to the review. I purchased the following products from them:

🍃The hydrating quench booster I bought this thinking it was a tinted moisturizer which it is stated as. However it I found it to be more of a regular face moisturizer since it offered literally no coverage whatsoever 🙁. It is a very good moisturizer though it’s light, non greasy and is made with skin loving ingredients like: Shea oil, Glycerin, almond oil, lecithin and grape seed oil. Would I buy it again as a moisturizer maybe as a tinted moisturizer no😕.

🍃The mineral corrector so I bought this for the sole purpose of covering up my dark under eye circles. While I like the consistency it’s moisturizing and blends easily the color is not as pigmented as I would have liked. It’s more of a peach color then a darker orange/pink which works better with my skin tone. However it is made of all natural ingredients🍃like Shea butter, jojoba oil, squalene . Would I repurchase itI’m thinking maybe…😳  🍃The gel eyeliner Ok so I love eyeliner I feel it defines and enhances your eyes so I have been looking for an organic, all natural liner for a long time. This one while it doesn’t flake or dry out it’s not the richest black. However I do like the ease of application and the fact that it’s made from natural ingredients. Will I be repurchasing Maybe 🤔

So guys that was my review of @Erzuliecosmetics🍃. I hope you found it helpful Let me know in the comments if you have tried this brand and what are your favorite products from them 😘

Until next time 💋xoxo❣️

Tips for staying healthy🍎 & fit💪🏼 in Ramadan 🌙

🌙Hola Loves❣️

🌙How is everyone doing❓ First I want to wish a very happy & blessed Ramadan to everyone ✨💕 and second getting on with today’s blog post how to stay fit and healthy during this month. Now to those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept of Ramadan let me explain briefly here: Ramadan is the holy month for Muslims all over the world in which they abstain from eating and drinking from dawn⛅️ till dusk🌜. That’s sunrise and sunset in layman terms 😋. Depending upon where you reside in the world that could mean anywhere from 15-19 hours of not eating and drinking 😳. So it’s very important that you focus on your diet and lifestyle during this month to ensure you stay healthy. Most of us tend to look at fasting either as a way to diet or an excuse to over eat and neither approach is correct.

🌙Instead a balanced approach to diet and exercise ( yes you read it correct the first time exercise during fasting) will make the period of fasting easier on your body. So let’s start with the tips you need to know to make fasting a better and healthier experience for you:

🌙1- Eat a balanced 🍎🍞🍳diet- Fasting is not a free pass to eat like a glutton. Instead of loading your system with greasy🍔, fried🍟, sugary 🍩foods just because you abstained from eating all day will only make you a) take in excessive amounts of fat and calories. b) make you feel tired and inadvertently gain weight instead of loosing.

🌙Here is what you can do instead :

  1. At suhoor ( beginning of the fast ⛅️) Eat foods are that are high in energy and low in saturated fats. Start off your fast with fresh juices or fruit, dates, complex carbs like oats, whole meal bread, proteins -eggs so that you have lasting energy to get you through the day. At iftaar ( breaking your fast) try to eat less of the fried foods ( I know eliminating them completely might be a death ☠️ sentence for most people ). A pakora ( fried batter dumpling) or two and a samosa ( fried dough dumpling) or two should be enough, try not to make a meal out of it though. Instead eat a well rounded meal consisting of whole grain carbs, veggies and lean proteins (your digestive system will thank ✨you)❗️
  2. Stay hydrated 💧. Between the hours of suhoor and iftaar try and get between 4-6 glasses of water. I know some people say 3 liters of water but those people are crazy 😵. You know what happens after you force yourself to try and drink that much water after fasting for 15+ hours and then eating ❓ 🤮 that’s what happens either that or your stomach balloons up to resemble that of a pregnant lady completely with water sloshing around 🙄. So be sensible ✨Don’t let yourself get dehydrated but don’t go crazy overboard either.
  3. Lastly try incorporating a workout routine. I know it sounds nuts but trust me fasting is a great time to burn some fat. Since you are not eating your body had to rely on it’s stored fat for energy. You have to be very careful though that you don’t over exhaust yourself or get dehydrated. Workout in a well ventilated cool place, wear loose comfortable clothing, keep cardio limited and focus more on strength and toning🏋🏼‍♂️ workouts. Pace yourself during the workout and take breaks as needed. Pick a time that suits you for some people it’s right before iftaar, for me it’s somewhere during the morning around 9-10 is when I have energy to spare.

🌙 Well guys those were my tips for staying healthy and fit during Ramadan ✨. I hope you guys find them useful and do let me know in the comments what are some tips and tricks you use❓

Until next time loves 💕❣️

Casual Sunday OOTD✨

🌞Hola Love bunnies🐰❣️

🌞Today’s post is all about my favorite the OOTD✨. It’s getting hotter🔥 here in Dubai which means outfits have to be loose and comfortable. Even though I love prints being petite means I have to pair them with solids to avoid looking like a walking wallpaper sample. 😋 In terms of wearing black in the 🌞summer I don’t mind it provided I pair it with something colored to breakup the darkness of the look. So here is today’s OOTD, luckily there was a lovely breeze about so it honestly didn’t feel like summer at all 😊

Shoes: Toms

Accessories: Tiffany , Fabula Jewels

🌞Hope you guys enjoyed this OOTD❣️ Until next time loves 💕❣️

✨Shopaholic Reviews: The HydraFacial✨

Hola Loves 💕!

💫It’s a new year and we are already nearing the end of January😱 time it seems is literally flying 🛫. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are working hard at your new year resolutions. I’m not so much a resolution person myself I find being sporadic tends to work better for me. All of my best laid plans have a tendency to go awry anyways 😒.

💫So back to the topic I’m totally not a facial kind of person I hate being touched and honestly I have yet to see a facial do miracles 🙄. However the “HydraFacial” had me intrigued. The idea of not having my face polished, scrubbed and shined like shoe leather 👞 (which is exactly how I describe typical facials😋) is what appealed to me. The “HydraFacial” uses a patented vacuum technology which creates a vortex effect that easily dislodges and removes impurities while simultaneously hydrating the skin with tailored serums and potent antioxidants. Add to that the fact that it’s favored by top Hollywood celebrities ✨i was totally interested in booking myself a session.

💫However that was easier said than done, the HydraFacial is a very costly 💰indulgence so after looking around for months for discounts I finally found an awesome deal that I just couldn’t pass up😍!

💫The TaoSpa at Jumeirah Mall were offering an amazing 50% off to try the HydraFacial for the month of January 🎉✨! Since my skin was looking unusually lack luster and tired and it was the new year I decided it was the perfect time to renew and refresh ✨❣️

💫The mall has plenty of parking which is always a relief and the spa will validate your parking as well. The spa itself has a very Asian inspired decor.

💫Upon entering I was asked to fill out a short form and then I was escorted down a very dimly lit corridor to my treatment room.

💫Once I was comfortably lying down I was covered with a towel and we went over my areas of concern: dullnes, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores 😳 enough to make a girl blush 😩)!

💫Back to the facial !The HydraFacial is a five step process: Vortex-Exfoliation™, Vortex-Peel™, Vortex-Extraction™, Vortex-Boost™, and Vortex-Fusion®. It typically lasts an hour but they also have the express option which takes just 30 mins.

💫It begins with the therapist cleaning your skin using a special cleanser.

💫This part is done by hand and to be honest it was a tad bit reminiscent of the traditional facials I have had in the past 😱. Thankfully it lasted only a few mins and then we got started with the high tech stuff 😬. For each process the therapist used a different colored sterilized tip. The first step was the vortex cleansing and exfoliation.

💫Your therapist will customize the vacuum suction based on your skin type. My skin is very sensitive so the suction was adjusted accordingly. The wand head simultaneously deposits the cleanser and sucks out the gunk from your pores.  💫The process is not the least bit uncomfortable all you feel is the cooling sensation of the cleanser/ serums and a light suction from the wand. After each step the wand tip will be rinsed and changed but the process will be the same: application of product followed by suction.  Before the final step my therapist applied protein mask around my eyes while she proceeded to apply the vitamin serum.
Yes I look peculiar I know 🤫. And here is me post the treatment tada✨
💫My skin looked fresh, felt squeaky clean and baby soft 💕😱! FYI I’m not wearing any makeup here 😬 aah my dream of being able to face the world bare faced was finally coming true 😍❣️.

💫To sum up I would highly recommend the HydraFacial ✨it is recommended to get multiple sessions to see the full benefits. Alas ☹️ owing to the exorbitant cost that might not be a possibility for me atleast for the time being . That being said I would definitely try the HydraFacial again if I happen to stumble across a bargain deal 😘.

That’s it for this blog post my loves 💕! Thanks for stopping by❣️
