☀️ShopaholicBlogs Reviews: Marinne Puppy🐶Skin Sunscreen☀️

⚜️Let’s talk about sunscreen☀️. As someone who lives in a country where the sun shines year round protecting my skin from the UVA/UVB rays is extremely important. Both cause premature aging of the skin, pigmentation and frankly speaking I have yet to meet a Desi girl who wants a tan😒. (If that was the case Fair and Lovely would have been out of business long ago💸). Now I have tried countless sunscreens over the years and here is what almost all of them had in common: They would break me out 😖, either leave white streaks, or leave an orangey🍊tint, would feel greasy and heavy on the skin or would have a nasty chemical smell and of course nearly all were chock full of unpronounceable ingredients.

Enter the @marinnepuppyskin skin tone correcting UV sunscreen with SPF 40. It is lightweight, translucent, fast absorbing and leaves my skin hydrated without breaking me out 🥰. It is formulated with both physical sunscreen Zinc Oxide and organic sunscreen made of a derivative of cinnamon leaves, balsam of Peru, and is free of harmful chemicals like Oxybenzone, Avobenzone and Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA). Recommend? Yes! Repurchase? Yes!!

🍃Shopaholic Reviews: Booda Organics🍃

🍃Today I will be talking about the brand @boodaorganics 🍃. As you all know or if you are new will get to know that I’m a skincare afficianado😍hence I’m always on the hunt for all natural, simple & organic skincare. This time around since I was scheduled for a trip✈️ I wanted a no fuss, travel friendly, multitasking & affordable trio of products that lived up to their claims 😳tall order I know.

🍃The @boodaorganics did not disappoint : they are easy on the pocket under $25 for all 3 products. Are made from all natural🍃USDA certified ingredients: shea & cocoa 🍫butters, 🥥coconut, jojoba & olive oils & smell delicious (especially the lip balm and body butter) , the soap bar is unscented.

🍃Live up to their claims and reviews: the lip balm is super hydrating without being greasy or heavy, same for the body butter, the soap is very moisturizing. And finally they have multiple uses: the body butter I use as a face cream at night, as a lip balm, as a hand and foot moisturizer, I also used it on a cut when I had nothing else handy. The soap can be used as a shampoo as well ( only tried this on virgin hair so far not on my own color treated hair). The lip balm I used as a hand moisturizer once when I forgot my hand cream. Finally it’s super easy to travel with as it’s a no spill, easy to store packaging. Recommended❓ Highly❗️Repurchase❓Yes❗️

ShopaholicBlogs: ☔️Rainy Days☔️

It’s Raining💦😍I know a lot of people will be rolling their eyes because when did rain ever inspire such joy🤩But when you live in a desert 🌵with the sun shining☀️ year round then occasional rain is a welcome sight 💕Also did I mention that to most Desi’s rain is a delightful treat ☔️As a child and a teen we (a gaggle of cousins & our youngest uncle) spent our summer vacations scanning the skies at our Nani’s(maternal grandma’s house)for any signs of dark clouds and would sniff the air for the unmistakable scent of damp earth which would signal that rain was on the way. (Monsoon ⛈season was between July & August when schools were blissfully off)In those days we had serious downpours ⛈that would last for hours🤩. And inspire hours of fun where we would be splashing around every puddle in sight in and around the house, spraying each other down with the additional water hose (despite our Nani’s admonishing that we would use up all the water in the tank 💦) Sliding down at super speeds down our slide and landing in puddles of dirt at the bottom, all the while eating piping hot pakoras with cups of chai (there is nothing like drinking steaming hot chai while trying to avoid the rain drops from falling in your cup ☕️😋)which the cook would be churning out of the kitchen in celebration of the wondrous weather ☔️So it’s not wonder that even today the sight of rain🌧gets me super excited and makes me want to go outside and start jumping around splashing in puddles and getting drenched 💦Here is to today’s glorious weather ☔️ a truly rare occurrence in Dubai🇦🇪.

ShopaholicBlogs: Bad Hair Days A Behind The Scenes Look🎬

So this was me in my night shirt, with my unkempt hair dreading the inevitable hair wash 💦day (which is usually after every 3 days) and which usually starts with me trying to coax my hair into behaving and lasting one more day which it clearly isn’t 😒. After which I give up and begin the tiring process which involves slathering on copious amounts of hair oil, combing out the tangles and trussing my hair up into a tight braid for a couple of hours while i dread the tiresome task of washing out the aforementioned oil which inevitably leads to sore, aching elbows (is it just me who gets tired just by washing my hair🧐) Not to mention the second round of combing, detangling & brushing that follows (which has become a lot easier thanks to the @johnmastersorganics detangler🤩). Then ofcourse there are the 4-5 hours I have to endure walking around looking like the survivor of a major frizz bomb deployment (it takes that long for my hair to settle down after wash💦 day 😳). So why this picture then? To show you that behind the photoshopped, impossible to achieve perfectionist obsessed world of social media is this reality that everyone wakes up to ( celebrities, social media stars everyone!). So let’s embrace our flaws and celebrate our imperfect, all natural selves from time to time.

🍃ShopaholicBlogs Reviews: Good Medicine Beauty Lab🍃

✨Let’s talk about moisturizers✨From the age of 10 – 16 the only moisturizer or cream (as we called it)we were aware of were the greasy concoctions known as Nivea in the blue aluminum tin or Cream 21 in the bright orange plastic tin. Both of which required the user to dash off to the bathroom afterwards and wipe off their face vigorously with a towel in a desperate attempt to get off the greasy sheen.

A few years later we were introduced to body shop and bath & body works concoctions courtesy of our travels and of some gifts brought by relatives living abroad✈️. Even then my daily routine consisted of slathering on whatever hand or body cream was available on my face and calling it a day. It wasn’t until I moved to the US 🇺🇸that I came upon the Olay Line at Target and i bought my very first Total Effects Lotion that I realized that there was an entire parallel universe of products dedicated for the face that I had never even known existed 😳.

Over the years I stuck with the Olay line of products trying different brands along the way but never really finding any that worked the miracles they claimed to on my skin. ☹️ It was years later when I moved to Dubai and I discovered that my staple Olay had a totally different formulation and after striking out miserably with all other mainstream skincare brands available that I seriously to started researching alternate skincare brands.

That was when I stumbled upon organic🍃, natural skincare brands and my journey of experimenting with the various organic skincare brands began. Over the years I have tried countless products from various brands and honestly there were only a handful that genuinely suited my skin and lived up to their claims. One of such products is the Clarity Face cream from @goodmedicinebeautylab.

This is the first truly matte moisturizer I have ever come across, that does not leave my face greasy. It actually has made my skin better, I rarely breakout anymore not even the pesky before period breakouts ✨my skin is hydrated and the best part is it’s made with only natural ingredients 🍃The cream is available as a 1oz deluxe sample as well so you can try it out before committing to the full size.

✂️ShopaholicBlogs : Hair Stories ✂️

💇🏻‍♀️I have always had long hair for as long as I can remember and as such I have become very protective of my locks 💝.

💇🏻‍♀️From the time when I was a toddler and till my late teens my mom was in charge of my hair’s care and maintenance : from pinning me down with one leg and piling on coconut🥥olive and safflower oils, to tying it in the tightest of braids. Even haircuts consisted of me standing on a pile of old 🗞newspapers and my mom trimming a few centimeters at the bottom with a pair of kitchen scissors ✂️. Salons and hairdressers according to my mom and Nani(her mom) were the wicked conspirators who would chop✂️ off all my hair to sell in the black market and send me home looking like a ganji kabootri (bald pigeon🐦) God only knows where Desi moms and grandma’s come up with such analogies and stories 😓.

💇🏻‍♀️If all that wasn’t extreme enough mom would also carefully wash and condition and detangle my hair announcing beforehand that I was too phoohar (both inept & incapable) that I would never be able to wash the oil out 😓. And also that I would use up all the water in the tank in the process😳.

💇🏻‍♀️Eventually I took over the washing and conditioning part once I turned 13 stressing that I needed privacy despite her protests of (mujh se kya chupa rahi ho maine tumhe 10 saal tak nilhaya hai💧) = I’ve bathed you till you were 10 there is nothing there I haven’t seen already 😳.

💇🏻‍♀️The only time after that I remember my mom washing my hair when I was older was when I was 14.

💇🏻‍♀️Ok so backstory : I was at school and for some reason had my head stuck out our classroom window to look at god knows what down below, when the glass pane from the window one floor above me fell out and smashed on my head 😱. And when I say smashed I mean smashed like into teeny tiny smithereens. So there I was with these hundreds of micro shards of glass in my hair feeling like a character from the Tiny Toons cartoon after they have been hit on the head with an anvil 😳. Anyways this was Karachi in the 90’s so the class teacher simply told me I was perfectly fine, not to make a fuss and since I wasn’t visibly bleeding that I should go home (the last class of the day had ended during this fiasco).

💇🏻‍♀️Once home I told my mom about the incident, where after the initial aye haye (oh no!) tujhe kya zarroorat thee khirki se poora sar bahar niklane ki? Kahin kaanch ne baal tu nahi kaat diye??( what possessed you to stick your whole head out the window? Don’t tell me the glass damaged the hair!!😒

I was then promptly marched over to the bathroom and since I refused to take off my clothes in front of her I had to sit in my uniform in the bathtub 🛁while she meticulously removed every piece of glass from hair and washed it. 💞

💇🏻‍♀️Given my mom’s obsession with long hair. It’s no wonder then that even as an adult I was very attached to my hair and when I finally ventured on my own for a haircut. I was the very epitome of the pain in the ass, badgering, edgy customer who would constantly remind the hair dresser to cut as little as possible of her precious hair and then demand proof that she had not tricked me and hacked off all my hair 🤨 (Mujhe dekhain kitna kaat rahi hain) = show me how much you are cutting off 😜

💇🏻‍♀️I remember the first time I had bangs cut 😳the sight of the hair dresser cleanly slicing off a a foot long, thick lock of hair had me clutching the arms of the salon chair so firmly my knuckles had turned white causing the lady to stop in alarm and checking to see if I was having some of seizure 😖🙃. I remember regretting getting my hair cut the moment I got back home and ordering all sorts of hair vitamins off of amazon and measuring my hair diligently every week.

💇🏻‍♀️Back to the present I have managed to get over my hair related nerves finally 😋 and I actually look forward to getting my hair styled and colored every now and then a little differently each time. Pictures below 😬⬇️💇🏻‍♀️Luckily I have always done my research and I have always found myself in good hands so no major hair disaster stories. Except for the time when I got my hair highlighted in Karachi and I ended up with a giant white blonde streak reminiscent of a Skunk’s tail smack in the center of my head 😱. But a tantrum in the salon and a little toner helped fix that problem so whew😬

💇🏻‍♀️I honesty feel a haircut and color is the easiest and quickest way to freshen up your look and feel good about the way you look. So here is my very current hair cut and yes it looked so good I had to indulge in a little selfie while I was still the car 😜

Tell me your hair stories good or bad I would love to hear them 😘
